Creator and Program Director, Alayne Blickle, is an environmental educator who has worked with horse and livestock owners for nearly 15 years. A life-long equestrian and reining competitor, she is also a contributing writer to regional and international publications including Northwest Horse Source, Backcountry Horseman of Washingtons The Trail Head News, John Lyons The Perfect Horse, Horse & Rider and Equus. Alayne owns and runs an environmentally sensitive 10-acre horse farm in Maple Valley, WA, USA that is used for demonstrations and farm tours. Farm tours provide an excellent opportunity for horse owners to take a first-hand look at different environmentally sensitive management options.
Horses for Clean Water actively educates horse owners through classroom series, workshops, farm tours and educational material development. Educational outreach is also achieved through partnerships between Horses for Clean Water and many different Conservation Districts, natural resource agencies, extension offices, environmental groups, horse organizations and other equine professionals. Educational presentations are done on mud management, manure management, pasture management, and naturescaping for horse farms. Also covered in these presentations are topics including, but not limited to: composting manure, fencing, dust control, weed management, equine nutrition, seed choices, naturescaping on horse farms, and insect control.
Horses for Clean Water produces a monthly electronic newsletter, The Green Horse, which covers a variety of topics on horse management while encouraging a sustainable lifestyle. The Green Horse is sent electronically to over 800 subscribers and is also available on our web site where it can be accessed by a much larger audience.
Horses for Clean Water is funded by grants and contracts from different funding agencies and through individual consultations and sponsorship donations. Sponsorships allow Horses for Clean Water to extend its educational outreach and to increase environmental and horse health awareness.
Horses for Clean Water (HCW) is an organization run by horse owners for horse owners. Our mission is to promote horse-keeping practices that are good for horse health, neighborhoods and the environment. Now beginning our tenth year, Horses for Clean Water works with thousands of horse owners each year. While we operate primarily in the Northwest, we conduct workshops and events across the nation. Through our outreach, our message reaches horse owners around the world. We are excited to continue our success and growth along with a select group of sponsors who share the HCW mission!
Sponsorship is reserved for organizations and companies that fit with the Horses For Clean Water mission.
