April grew up and lives in the Puget Sound area of western Washington, and has had the honor of learning many lessons from her various horse friends since the age of 12. She continues to do so with her two playful geldings, Scooter and Max, and thinks these just might be the two horses that will help to earn her masters in odd horse behavior!
When April and her husband moved to a 15 acre wildlife property in the Cascade Foothills in 1998, they took Alaynes Horses for Clean Water classes to learn how to develop their property into an environmentally sustainable horse farm while maintaining the benefits of a major wildlife corridor and forested area. The farm has since evolved into a Horses for Clean Water model farm, and has been the site of many educational events and tours.
April has worked in the lawn and garden industry for over 25 years in many different capacities at both the wholesale and retail level. She currently splits her time working with her husband in his lawn and garden business, managing their commercial property, and writing and researching for Horses for Clean Water. She is also State certified to operate their familys commercial water system and is furthering her education on water resources and how they will evolve into the future.
HCWs April LaLande and husband, Mike, receive accolades from King Conservation District for the environmentally sensitive care of their horse property
