Idaho Equine Hospital's Client Education Series: Pasture Management and Equine Health and Nutrition

  • Idaho Equine Hospital 16080 Equine Drive Nampa, ID, 83687 United States (map)

Learn how to weave pasture, equine nutrition and horse health together. IEH veterinarian Dr. Shane Smith will speak on horse health as it relates to nutrition and diet, focusing specifically on Equine Metabolic Syndrome and Cushing’s disease (PPID), and the increased risk of laminitis associated with these diseases. Alayne Blickle from Horses for Clean Water will cover pasture management and how to design your system for your horse’s health.

Learn basic techniques for good pasture management including: how grasses grow, creating a winter paddock, spreading compost, and rotational grazing. We will discuss what constitutes a “lush” pasture and how to manage horses and grazing so horses don’t become fat. We will also discuss slow feeders and track paddocks as ways to manage overweight or Insulin Resistant horses. Sponsored by the Ada Soil and Water Conservation District and Idaho Equine Hospital.
